Authorities crack down on DUI arrests on Super Bowl Sunday

If you are like millions of people across the country, you are likely gearing up for the biggest sports event of the year: the Super Bowl. This Sunday, people will be throwing or attending parties to watch the game and cheer on their favorite team. Residents in Flagstaff have an extra reason to celebrate this year, as the game itself will be right here in Arizona.

This flood of activity also means that law enforcement officers will be out in droves across the state to try and keep people safe and arrest anyone under suspicion of breaking the law. Police in just about every state, including Arizona, will be cracking down on suspected intoxicated drivers in particular this weekend, as it can be one of the most dangerous days of the year for drunk driving accidents.

Reports from nearby California indicate that the number of alcohol-related accidents increase significantly on Super Bowl Sunday; in some areas, they double. Police are prepared for this. Law enforcement officers from several different agencies will be patrolling the streets and keeping an extra sharp eye out for any driver who may be intoxicated.

Police know that people often drink alcohol before, during and after the Super Bowl. In order to prevent accidents, officers will be quick to pull a driver over if they have a reasonable suspicion that the driver is impaired.

We strongly encourage any person who will be drinking this weekend to find an alternative to driving, whether this involves calling a cab or asking a sober friend for a ride.

However, if you are arrested for making a mistake and driving while intoxicated or are wrongfully accused of DUI this weekend, you should try and stay calm and remember that you have the right to speak with an attorney and defend yourself against charges. While it may ruin your weekend, a DUI charge does not have to ruin your future.
